THE WHOLE STORY...
You Can Conserve Water in the Winter Too!
Many people lose or decrease their water conservation awareness in the winter as water consumption decreases, and rainfall occurs more frequently. In fact, winter is still a good time to conserve water and, importantly, to prepare for the upcoming warmer and dryer spring, summer and fall seasons. One of the most important things you can do is shut off your outdoor sprinkler system and only hand-water as needed.
Here are some additional winter water-saving tips:
- Upgrade your outdoor water timer with a more efficient unit
- Check inside and outside for leaky faucets, hose fixtures, etc.
- “Dry” clean your car with any of the brush-style car dust/dirt removing devices
- Make sure you have the latest low-flush or water-efficient toilets and clothes washers installed at home and work
- Decrease washing machine and dishwasher usage, and only use with full loads
- Purchase a cover for your outdoor pool or spa
- Re-landscape grassy, water intensive lawns with water-efficient landscaping or plant trees to increase shade
