ALHAMBRA
In October 2008, the City of Alhambra, Department of Utilities, dedicated its new $13.2 million Groundwater Treatment Plant. The facility will enable Alhambra to continue to provide the community with clean, safe and reliable water at the lowest possible cost. The Plant has the capacity to treat up to 7,000 gallons of water per minute using advanced, state-of-the-art technology, specifically a process of ion exchange and liquid phase granular activated carbon technology to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrates. The Plant will also enable the City to reclaim water from two currently inactive wells, thereby reducing Alhambra’s dependency on external water sources.
The Water District supported the City’s initiative through a combination of a financial grant and zero interest loan.
