Who Is In Control Here?

SGVMWD operates under the laws of California that regulate such issues as water, health, elections and economics.

Water issues would encompass such issues as how much water we are authorized to take each year from the State Water Project to replace water that has been pumped from the aquifer below our communities. In addition to the state we are part of the San Gabriel Valley Water Master, which each year determines what our communities can safely extract from the aquifer.

Public health relies on our water supplies being clean and free from contaminants so our cities and we are constantly sampling and testing the water to assure its safety.

The district employs a small professional staff to implement and manage the programs that import and distribute replacement water, generate electricity, build relevant partnerships and educate the community on the need for effective water conservation.
